An Invisible Toolbox
for Scuba Divers
Diving presents us with challenges. There are new skills to learn, like clearing a mask or putting up a surface marker buoy. Sometimes we face unfamiliar conditions: low visibility, night diving, strong currents.
Then there is our own stuff! The fear of getting it wrong or struggles with self-criticism or nerves.
All divers experience this! I know it doesn't look like it, but I work with divers confidentially and I've got a lot of professional diver friends. We all have difficulties sometimes, and we all have opportunities for growth through diving.
And, we know what it means to scuba dive. That feeling of flying underwater and seeing things most of the world can only imagine. It's like entering another world!
Whether you are looking for a tool to help you with a challenge, or a way to deepen your connection, you will find it here.
Who creates the practices?
About Dr Laura Walton
I’m Laura, a psychologist, scuba diving instructor, and the founder of Fit to Dive. I’ve spent more than a decade as a dive professional and have seen many of the small challenges that divers face underwater. Things like worrying about air consumption, struggling with a skill, feeling uneasy in low visibility, or putting pressure on yourself to perform well.
I have a longstanding interest in how we can better understand our own experiences in the water, and in using insights from my background to support us as scuba divers to improve our experience of diving and our wellbeing.
For a number of years I have shared these ideas through courses that focus on building knowledge of theories that can help us as divers. These practices take a slightly different approach. They are simple guided exercises that help you reflect on your experience, settle tension, and develop a calmer, more focused approach to diving.
These audio practices are designed to give you a supportive space to explore your own diving experience and wellbeing. Many are based on situations I see repeatedly while teaching and guiding divers, and sometimes on things I have worked through in my own diving as well.
If there is something you would like help with, you are welcome to suggest it. New practices are often created in response to real questions and requests from divers.
